That day was filled with both sorrow and joy: my exam results had just come out, and I had passed very well. However, my mother and father told me they could no longer afford to send me to school. I was deeply hurt because my father worked at the market and my mother was a housewife, always waiting for him to bring money home. As we discussed this, my mother looked at me with pity, knowing how much I loved learning. She said to my father, “My husband, what do you think if we ask your younger brother, Bamdogo, for some help, even if just a little?”
My father replied firmly, “Honestly, I don't want to ask Ethan for help again. Please forget it, my wife. I don’t want to trouble him.”
My mother said, “You hate to see our daughter unhappy. It’s our mistake we have failed to give her the education she deserves. Even if I must beg, I will do it myself.”
“I admit I’ve failed, but I don’t want to do that,” my father said. “Let’s just find her work instead. Natalia can work.”
“No, my husband, we have failed with your brother,” my mother insisted. “But today, because it’s our daughter’s future, I refuse to accept that. Natalia, get ready; we are going to your uncle’s place in Mbezi Bichi right away.”
